Pullman train cars inside the station
Inside America's first Union Station (1888), 26 of the hotel's 273 rooms are built into authentic 1920s Pullman sleeper cars parked on their original tracks on the second floor, each named for an era celebrity — Chaplin, Churchill, Cole Porter. Below, the barrel-vaulted Grand Hall still soars over what is now a convention-connected downtown hotel. The catch: Only 26 of 273 rooms are train cars and your specific Pullman is assigned at check-in, not chosen — and freight trains still rumble through the working station.
